Around the World

Let GALAXIE take you on a musical journey Around the World. We’ll visit every continent and explore the cultural traditions of the four corners of the planet like the hot sounds of South America and Africa mixed with Asia and Eastern Europe. Along the way we’ll be treated to the musical mastery of artists such as Ali Farka Toure, Tinariwen, Gotan Project, Rachid Taha, Kiran Ahlowalia, Orchestre Baobab, Geoffrey Oryema to name only a few.

Since the early eighties, Patrick Darby has been working as a producer and distributor of world music. The artistic director of Traquen’Art Productions, Patrick has brought such distinguished artists as Youssou N’Dour and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan to Canadian stages. He also has a hand in the concert series World Music and Traditions, which has been presented in Montreal since the fall of 1999. Patrick says his passion for world music gives him a global vision. His record label, Cross Current Music, picked up a 1995 Juno nomination for its first release, which featured Papo Ross and Orquestra Pambiche. Patrick served as a juror in the global album category for the 1999 and 2002 Junos.

With World, Patrick takes audiences around the globe, playing a wide array of musical genres from Africa, Latin America, Asia and beyond. His playlist includes traditional and classical works, music rooted in folk, as well as popular musical styles. Featured artists range from Cesaria Evora to Buena Vista Social Club. “World music boasts a bottomless well of talent to discover,” Patrick says.
