Latino Tropical

Ralph Boncy was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He grew up appreciating a variety of musical styles (konpa, merengue, salsa, son, mariachi, bossa-nova, rock). He started his career on the radio at the age of 13 (Radio Métropole, 129 AM, the most listened to in the country). At the age of 18 he began his journalism career at “Le Nouvelliste” the oldest daily newspaper in Haiti.
He then came to Quebec and studied communications. In 1981 he began his career in the music industry as a writer, composer and producer. Between the years 1982 and 1992 he produced 10 albums with Zèklè and Emeline Michel. He then went on tour in France, the U.S., the Caribbean and Japan.
Upon his return to Quebec in 1992 he continued writing on world music for the following magazines: “Beat Magazine” (California), “Rythmes”, and “Voir” (*) since 1998 and “L’Actualité” (**), since 2005.
For three years he was the writer and animator of the TV show “Rythmes du Monde“ on Musimax. He later became the Musical Director of Musique Plus and Musimax between the years of 1998-2003. Ralph then moved on to be the Musical Director at Couleur Jazz 91,9 from 2004-2007. From there he transitioned to Radio-Canada as radio host for two years. He has been programming the Galaxie channel Latino Tropical, which he founded, with his wife Sandra St-Fleur since 2000.
