When Lorne Anderson first heard what was then called “Jesus Rock” it touched his soul. He was excited to hear performers whose musical expression of faith wasn’t rooted in the stale music of the past. As a Christian, his passion for that music led him to want to share it with others through radio. An unlikely radio career led him from campus station CKCU-FM in Ottawa to rocker CFMC FM in Saskatoon to Christian station CHRI-FM in Ottawa, with detours along the way as a newspaper reporter, a freelance writer, as a missionary in Liberia, West Africa, and lots of time as a stay-at-home dad.

“My parents’ generation couldn’t understand expressing faith through rock music, or even pop music, because they thought those styles were of the devil,” Lorne explains. “The church’s understanding of music has changed, and the recognition is that it’s the hearts and minds of the performers that is most important, not the musical style.”

Lorne says one of his biggest thrills is introducing new artists to the Galaxie audience. “There are so many new voices with something to say, musicians with a genuine desire to say something real, to integrate their faith into daily life and bring us on the journey with them. It’s so much fun to be part of that, to be bringing musician and audience together.”
When not listening to music Lorne can be found on Parliament Hill, helping keep Canada safe for democracy.
