Donald "D" Robins

Donald “D” Robins has been involved within the Canadian music industry for the past 20 years & has been a contributor to Canada’s growing soul\urban music movement. With his increasingly busy career, he has worn many hats: DJ, major record label promoter, on-air radio & TV personality, tour manager, record importer, and entrepreneur. Donald grew up listening to various genres of musical formats. During his first year of college, he volunteered at the local college’s radio station CKVR, ending his tenure there as their assistant manager. During his music deejaying career, he joined a young team to build a music import and talent booking agency to initially serve the Montreal market. Only when the import division's client base & business began to grow nationally, Donald's interest peaked towards the major label industry. In 1997 he joined Universal Music Canada as an urban life styles consultant for the Quebec market. Three years later he moved on to EMI Music Canada where he was a radio promotion rep. Donald's fascination of the medium - radio, was a factor to help direct his interest to musical formats available to consumers. Over 10 years Donald volunteered at CKUT- Radio McGill and was behind the popular weekly program, Weekend Groove, where his musical selections had a Soul/R&B musical vibe. His opportunity to program a Soul/R&B channel broadcast to a national audience commenced seven years ago, with an invitation to join the Galaxie programming team. Donald's major label experience has also continued with his previous employment at Sony Music Canada and he is currently employed by Warner Music Canada. His pride on supporting Canadian talent has enabled him to understand how Canadian musicians are marketed to consumers here & in foreign markets. His involvement with Galaxie has been encouraging, "Galaxie allows you to share musical selections to a national audience, who hear a song they have never heard before & discover to like it!"
