Nigel Newton

It’s the emotional connections in life that move me. My response to things develops the thread that connects one to another. When I find a book I like, I seek out others by the author to see what else they have to offer. Iain Banks, Isabelle Allende and Bruce Chatwin I have mined extensively. I’m a modernist and romantic futurist. I love Star Trek, the X-Men and Heroes. I’ll watch House, Medium and Grey’s Anatomy at any time. I subscribe to Dwell magazine and I’d buy most things at CB2 in Soho, New York. Living in Toronto it’s easy to fall into an urban-centric view and I enjoy a walk along any beach, forays out to the Mid-West and our winters skiing as a family in the lake effect snow (local weather term, snow created by winds blowing across Lake Erie), south of Buffalo. European born and bred, I have a fondness for Paris, the south of France and Tuscany. Trying out Jamie Oliver’s recipes takes me back to growing up in 1970s England where my parents partied all weekend and my dad made the party tapes on reel-to-reel. If I’m working on the house on a Sunday afternoon I keep the family tradition of listening to the national chart, (it’s even better when it’s the UK countdown!). When I hear a mix with an edge, the promise of an attitude, a beat that will keep you dancing at 4 am into the dawn, cutting synth patterns or raw soulful vocals, I’m home.
